Lough Derg Lifeboat launches to assist two persons

At 10.42hrs Lough Derg RNLI Lifeboat was requested to launch to assist two persons aboard a vessel aground and in difficulty in near gale winds in Rossmore Bay Lough Derg RNLI lifeboat launched following a request from Valentia Coast Guard to go the assistance of two persons on board a 30ft cruiser that had gone aground in Rossmore Bay. The RNLI lifeboat, with helm Eleanor Hooker, Peter Clarke and Robbie Garland on board, launched today at 10.55hrs. The winds were northerly Force 6 gusting 7 (Strong Breeze-Near Gale). The lifeboat located the cruiser deep in Rossmore Bay behind the Stick Rock buoy. The two persons on board were advised to put on their lifejackets and were taken onto the lifeboat and brought to Rossmore Harbour; they were safe and unharmed. An RNLI crew member had boarded the vessel and established that it was not holed. The vessel was taken off the rocks and into Rossmore Harbour The lifeboat returned to station and was ready for service again at 13.00hrs. The passengers thanked the volunteer crew of the RNLI lifeboat and said that they were so relieved when they saw the lifeboat approach from up the lake.
