On Sunday November 19th from 9.30am until 4.30pm, twelve volunteers from Lough Derg RNLI Lifeboat Station attended an Automated External Defibrillation Course in the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh.  Mary O’Brien, Course Director and her Instructors for the day, Emergency Medical Technicians Noel Purcell, Jimmy Duggan, Christina O’Dwyer and David King and Registered General Nurse Jackie Murphy gave the Course and their time, free of charge to the RNLI.  The course entailed a complete revision of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and introduced the use and management of the defibrillator following a cardiac arrest.  Volunteers will attend a follow up lecture in the use of the defibrillator, to be given by Mary O’Brien, every ninety days in the first year of the initial course and six monthly thereafter.  We would like to extend our warmest thanks to Mary and her team for a hugely informative course and a highly enjoyable day and to Dr. Peter Hooker and Fergal Kerney for organising continuing training for volunteer crew at our station.

All of the volunteers at Lough Derg RNLI Lifeboat Station would like to thank Colm Grace and Bernard Molloy from Kilgarvin Angling Club for their considerate generosity again this year in presenting the RNLI with a cheque for €250 and for their accepted offer to use their premises for any operations that the RNLI might be conducting at the Northern end of the lake.
